Alien Inventors

Alien Inventors presents the world of discovery and invention in a fun, out-of-this-world style. A group of aliens comes to earth and joins forces with a group of kids to explore and solve the problems of their lives. Every day situations offer the foundation for working together to make a better life for themselves and others. The aliens bring guidance, insight, support, and a different perspective. Sometimes the two worlds align, sometimes they don’t. But there always is learning, discovery, and fun.

The alien characters are different from you and me. They don’t look the same, they don’t think the same, and they are often just plain weird. (What is that smell?) Their differences are fun and their differences are a challenge. But underneath they are like us, with dreams and thoughts and emotions. As guides, they represent the elements that bring us great inventive success, for example: wisdom, intelligence, compassion, dedication, and boldness. As friends, they face the same kinds of problems and have the same kinds of hopes that we do.

The stories are set on mostly on earth and sometimes in space. Aliens come and go, entering with new stories and new inventions. They tell tales of their home worlds, with flashbacks to their own families and friends and with descriptions of inventions from their planets. The aliens bring the inventive theme to life. They compete in galactic inventors contests. They help the kids do the same. (Did I warn you yet? One of the alien inventors made a couple of robots that don’t have all the bugs worked out. The robots aren’t that helpful or supportive.) Many of life’s unexplained mysteries can be attributed to the results of alien inventions as we learn they’ve been here before and as we learn to accept our mistakes and try again.

The inventions are real (theoretically sound) enough to be applicable to our lives. The stories explore the various aspects of inventing, from understanding the problem, to building a prototype, to explaining it to others, to making it affordable & buildable & reliable & safe, to getting it to market, etc. The inventions are simple to understand and scientifically plausible (depending on what planet you are on). Some of the inventions work, some do not. We’re only human…

Alien Inventors speaks to the creative, enthusiastic seeker and problem solver in everyone. Kids will relate to the characters and to their struggles. They will recognize their own potential as they learn how the fictional characters triumph over common adversities. Kids and parents together will learn to try new ideas and new approaches to solving problems. They will learn how persistence, teamwork, and effort can lead them to success. Kids will be entertained. They will share their creative ideas enthusiastically with each other and their parents. Some kids will be inspired to become inventors themselves.
